Swimming camp in the May half-term: complete travel info and programme

Everything you need to know about the May half-term training camp — flights, programme, preparation

For competitive swimmers the May half-term is a golden moment: just after the short-course national championships, with enough time to make a big leap for the summer season. A swimming camp in the May half-term is therefore the most important block of the year for many Dutch and Belgian competitive swimmers.

Why the May half-term?

  • Just after the short-course nationals — swimmers know what still needs improving and are mentally sharp to pick up something new
  • 10 weeks until summer competitions — exactly enough time to cash in camp gains at meets in June/July
  • School holiday — no pressure from homework or tests, optimal focus on swimming and recovery

What does our May half-term programme look like?

A typical day at our ZwemExpert Competitive Swimming Summer Camp 2026 :

  • 07:30 — Breakfast (athlete-focused: carbohydrates + protein)
  • 09:00-11:00 — Morning session in 50m pool (technique focus)
  • 11:30 — Second breakfast / snack
  • 12:30 — Lunch
  • 14:00-15:00 — Dryland session or video analysis
  • 16:00-18:00 — Afternoon session (volume / race pace)
  • 19:30 — Dinner
  • 21:00 — Theory or mental training, 22:00 lights out

We keep this rhythm up all week. On day 4 we switch to a lighter schedule for recovery.

Travel and logistics

  • Flight — from Schiphol or Brussels, a supervised group flight under the watch of ZwemExpert staff
  • Transfer — bus from the airport to the hotel; nobody travels alone
  • Accommodation — hotel right next to the pool, no travelling between training and room
  • Supervision — staff present 24/7, including for minors

How do you prepare your child?

  1. Keep to the normal training schedule — don't suddenly add extra, that increases injury risk
  2. Pay extra attention to sleep (9-10 hours per night) and nutrition
  3. Discuss together with your child and the coach: what is the key goal of the camp? One concrete technical point is better than 'just training'

What does it cost and what's included?

Our May half-term camp in Italy 2026 is in the €1,900-€2,300 price range, with supervised flight and transfer, full board and all sessions included. Early-bird discount until 1 December. For exact dates and places — see ZwemExpert Competitive Swimming Summer Camp 2026 .

Frequently asked questions

My child has never been to a camp without us before — is this for them?

Yes, provided they are at least 12 years old. Our staff are specifically trained for this. We send a short update to parents every day and schedule video calls along the way if you'd like.

What if my child gets ill during the camp?

Medical support is on site at every camp. For mild complaints we adjust the programme; for more serious complaints we arrange contact with a doctor and, if necessary, a return flight.
